Protecting Murals for Communities

Recognised for our expertise in graffiti management, UMS prepared a ‘canvas’ on a retaining wall to allow local artists to create a mural honouring NSW’s Australian of the Year recipient, Shane Fitzsimmons – the former NSW State Fire Service Commissioner.

Disappointingly, the artwork received some unwanted attention from graffiti vandals, which caused a great deal of angst amongst the local community.

This situation called for UMS to deploy its skilled crew on short notice, returning to the site and enabling the artwork to be restored to its original condition.

“With years of experience in graffiti management, our team was well equipped to prepare for and mitigate unwanted activity with this project. The combination of experienced and dedicated staff ensures we deliver the best results that enhance community assets,” said Tim Killworth, National Manager, Urban Environments, UMS.

Shane Fitzsimmons was instrumental in managing the coordination of the bush firefighting effort in NSW in December 2019 and into early 2020, where some 800,000 hectares of land was burnt in that State, stretching from the Queensland border to the Victorian border.

UMS’ Urban Environments work extends into areas such as signage, street infrastructure maintenance, site remediation and upgrades, as well as high pressure cleansing, litter and hard waste removal.
