In support of R U OK? Day, UMS HQ had a wonderful morning tea where our staff were encouraged to ask, “Are you OK?” at work. R U OK? Day is a national day of action and a reminder to all that you have got what it takes to have a life-changing conversation. At UMS, we strive to foster a culture where our staff feel comfortable asking and answering this simple yet important question. UMS encourages everyone to trust the signs, reach out, listen without judgement, encourage action, and check in with someone who might be going through a tough time.
R U OK? Day is born out of the vision that we all live in a world where people are connected and protected from suicide. Their mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them and support anyone struggling with life. UMS recognises our legal responsibility of providing a safe and healthy workplace, but we want to go beyond that and ensure our staff to feel comfortable and confident asking “Are you okay?” because it is an important issue and it can be a life-changing conversation.
R U OK? has come up with four simple and easy conversation steps to provide you the confidence and skills to navigate a conversation with staff, family members or friends you may worried about.
